LILY & THE ALBATROSS

A tale of wild weather, wild birds and wild ambitions for ages 5+

Far out in the wild and remote ocean is a small family on an old fishing boat who pass the time with exciting stories and merry music. The whims of the water control their daily routine but Lily finds herself gazing upwards, where birds swim weightlessly above her head before stealing the precious fish from the fishing nets. With the threat of the nightly storm and its whipping winds, the family must pull together, take a leap of faith and look beyond what they have always known to get themselves and their old boat moving again. Discover the legend of Great Captain Markham, join the family as they battle the elements and meet a gliding albatross, who flies in the face of the storm and gives Lily the nudge she needs to truly stretch her wings.

During the COVID 19 pandemic, the show was developed into a street theatre piece that is now being delivered across Wiltshire in Association with Wiltshire Creative, thanks to funding from Tesco Community Grants. You can read more about this on the Albatross Fly By/Street Theatre page HERE.

Twice receiving Arts Council funding, Lily & the Albatross toured alongside an early years adaptation to venues across the UK and to outreach audiences from Feb 2018 - Feb 2020.

Venues toured to include Theatre Royal Winchester, Half Moon Theatre, Salisbury Playhouse, Poole Lighthouse, Everyman Cheltenham and Pavilions Teignmouth to name a few. The show was part of the Arts Council of Wales Night Out Scheme and toured through Ayrshire Rural Touring, through Celebrating Age and Wiltshire Creative, visiting areas of deprivation. It also toured through Artsreach, Rural Wiltshire and Applause. The show was performed in Salisbury District Hospital's spinal unit and a short adaptation regularly visited the Hospital wards.
